The Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine” was founded on 12th May 1972 and registered under Societies Registration Act 1860 at PANAJI (GOA).
The Registered office i.e. the headquarters of the Association shall be located in the dwelling city of General Secretary of Academy.
Membership of the society is lifetime after approval. All the life members get copy of journal free during their life. Membership is restricted to medical professionals at present from India as well as abroad.

Dear Colleague/visitor,
Season’s Greetings and a very happy new year 2012 to all! With colossal pleasure I, Dr Adarsh Kumar, in the capacity of Honorary General Secretary, Indian Academy of Forensic Medicine (IAFM) welcome you to the official website of academy from India. Founded in 1972 at Goa, IAFM is the oldest body of forensic medicine experts in country & with a current strength approaching one thousand is probably second largest scientific association of forensic professionals in the whole world.
JIAFM is it’s official publication which has now entered into 34th Volume after initial hiccups during foundation years. With immense gratitude it is to convey that last year (2011) JIAFM has been included under Scopus & Index Medicus (South Asia region) after consistent efforts and under tenure of present IAFM Governing Council( 2010-13).It is envisaged that very soon it will be included under PubMed Central.
The website you are now visiting has just been launched for first time after overcoming several procedural hindrances. Now onwards this website will be the forum to communicate with all IAFM life members and the control of the content will vest with General Secretary in official capacity and not on personal basis. The website is still in it’s infancy but I am sure that with valuable inputs & continuous contributions especially present whereabouts and contact details; it will be in proper shape very soon.
All of you are aware that during preceding year or so how IAFM has coordinated the whole movement against the most atrocious attacks on the very existence of subject in MBBS curriculum in absence of official website. IAFM is relentlessly working to improve its structural organisation for better coordination which has been the biggest handicap in country like India. Several important decisions were taken during last year in this context which were unanimously approved by General Body during IAFM conference at Nellore in this context and are being implemented gradually.
This is just a beginning of new horizon with an aim to serve the society in general and forensic fraternity in particular. It is sincerely believed that with positive thinking, innovative ideas and actual work contributions from you all, the day is not far when “Forensic Medicine” will get it’s actual due from all concerned.
